Mechanism of Action of ORAL HA
The binding of oral HA to Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) promotes interleukin-10 (IL-10). an anti-inflammatory cytokine and suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines expression leading to anti-inflammation of arthritis in joints.
STUDIES
24 Japanese patients with chronic knee pain ( HA group, n=13; placebo group, n=11, mean age, 47.5 ) were treated with an HA mixture at a dose of 1800 mg/day (HA content, 60mg/day ) or placebo for 2 weeks.
The HA group displayed a significant improvements in knee pain and discomfort compared with placebo group ( Hatayama et al, 2008.)

In the US, 20 subject aged ≥ 40 years with knee OA ( HA group, n=11; placebo group, n=9, mean age, 56.3) were treated with an HA mixture at a dose of 80mg/day (HA content, 48/day) or placebo group for 2 months.
The physical function and total symptom scores of the HA group displayed a more drastic improvements then those of the placebo group ( Kalman et al, 2008 )

The Clinical trial preformed by Brandt et al., 2001 and Day et al., 2004 indicated that HA is safe and well tolerated to induce a clinically significant improvement for patients with mild-to moderate knee OA.
